Holgado wins Qatar Moto2 GP as Guevara retires

Source: Motorsport Week · · added 1 hour ago

Daniel Holgado took victory in the Moto2 race in Qatar after snatching the lead from Aleix Escrig on lap 14. Ivan Ortola finished second, passing Escrig on the run to the line by 0.020 seconds, while David Alonso took fourth ahead of Daniel Munoz in fifth.

Manuel Gonzalez was the biggest beneficiary. Although he could only finish sixth after running as high as third early on, he leaves Doha with a 13.5-point lead in the championship. His main rival, Izan Guevara, retired with a mechanical issue, his worst result of the 2026 season.

With two rounds remaining and 50 points still available, the Qatar race could prove to be a turning point in the title fight. Gonzalez's Intact GP team-mate Senna Agius finished seventh, ahead of Jose Antonio Rueda in eighth.
