Honda Racing US backs Porsche call for swift 2030 Hypercar rules framework

Honda Racing Corporation USA has backed Porsche Motorsport's call for swift progress on the 2030 Hypercar and GTP regulations for the World Endurance Championship and IMSA. New HRC US president Kelvin Fu said Honda is closely monitoring the high-level working group discussions between the FIA, the ACO and IMSA, despite having paused its Acura programme in IMSA competition because of the cost of Evo upgrades to its LMDh cars.

Porsche Motorsport head Thomas Laudenbach has said he wants a detailed technical framework by Christmas 2026. Fu said Acura faces a similar timeline as it evaluates its sports car future, given the lead times needed for prototype design and internal budget approvals. He noted that development takes roughly two-and-a-bit years, and that the scope of the rules, including chassis, aero and power unit, will determine how early manufacturers must commit resources.

Fu said clarity would be needed within the next year, since teams would need to start assembling in early 2028.
