Wolff admits he never thought he would match Williams

Source: RacingNews365 · · added 23 minutes ago

Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff has said he never thought it possible to match Sir Frank Williams's tally of constructors' championships. Mercedes secured the ninth constructors' title, drawing level with Williams for third on the all-time list, after a messy race in Brazil won by Lando Norris for McLaren.

Wolff said he had a close relationship with Williams and described the achievement as amazing. He also acknowledged that people who were part of the Brawn and Honda successes have won more titles than he has. Russell and Antonelli finished fourth and fifth, with Mercedes going without a podium for the first time this season, though the result was enough to secure the title with three rounds remaining.

Wolff praised the strong start to the season and the organisation's work in returning to the top after a few difficult years, saying not many teams have come back from such a situation.
