Verstappen second in Sao Paulo after strong recovery drive
Max Verstappen finished second at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix, 14 seconds behind Lando Norris, after starting from 21st on the grid. His first stint on intermediate tyres was strong and put him in podium contention early on, but he said the car later developed an unexpected and unfamiliar balance that stopped him making inroads into the lead.
Verstappen said he did not yet know what had gone wrong and that the team needed to understand it. He still described the result as a very good one given the grid position. Red Bull also took third place through Isack Hadjar, the team's second double podium of the season.
Hadjar briefly ran second before being told to hand the place to Verstappen after losing time running wide at Turn 1, an incident he said could have been avoided. He also held off Kimi Antonelli as rain intensified towards the finish.
