Stroll closes on F1 season DNF record after Sao Paulo failure
Lance Stroll retired from the Sao Paulo Grand Prix with a battery issue while running towards the back of the field in changing conditions. It was his 13th retirement of the 2026 season, leaving him one short of the all-time record of 14 for a single campaign, shared by Andrea de Cesaris and Rubens Barrichello.
Stroll has failed to finish in a long list of rounds this year, and his best result has been 12th in Bahrain. Teammate Fernando Alonso was running 11th on lap 43 of 71, just behind Charles Leclerc, and fighting for a points position.
