Russell spins at Interlagos pit exit after switching to slicks
George Russell spun on his exit from the pit lane during the Sao Paulo Grand Prix after a pit-stop for soft tyres. The field had started on intermediates, and the track was drying quickly, prompting a wave of stops from Lap 15 onwards. Russell managed to turn his Mercedes around after briefly driving the wrong way, as rivals including Isack Hadjar, Liam Lawson and Oscar Piastri passed through.
Russell dropped to eighth once the order settled. His team-mate Kimi Antonelli, who was leading, had not yet stopped, and his lead over Lando Norris was wiped out. Norris moved onto the back of the Mercedes, which then spun at Turn 1 as Antonelli reported a potential issue.
