Lawson third on grid for Sao Paulo GP after wet qualifying
Liam Lawson will start the Sao Paulo Grand Prix from third on the grid after a strong qualifying session at Interlagos for Racing Bulls. Heavy rain neutralised the field during the top-10 shootout, and Lawson posted the fifth-fastest lap of Q3, benefiting from the grid drops for Charles Leclerc and George Russell.
Lawson said he had not maximised the pace of his car, as his first flying lap briefly gave him provisional pole before he had to abort his second run when the rain intensified. He also said he believed he had more of a chance in the wet, but that there was a big risk, as his car was quick in the dry.
Lawson currently sits ninth in the 2026 drivers' standings with 83 points, and the Faenza-based team has yet to confirm its 2027 line-up.
