Norris wins Sao Paulo GP after Antonelli spin
Lando Norris says keeping his composure and avoiding errors were the main factors in his victory at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix for McLaren. Starting from pole position, he was jumped off the line by Kimi Antonelli and followed the Mercedes through the intermediate tyre stint until the crossover. Norris pitted a lap before Antonelli, used his hotter tyres to close the gap and attacked into Turn 1, after which Antonelli spun and Norris took the lead.
Norris went on to survive a second stop, a late rain shower and a switch to intermediate tyres, winning his 14th grand prix and third of the season by 14.602 seconds from Max Verstappen. He said it was a very tough race, particularly running slicks in the wet while pushing for the lead.
Reflecting on the weekend, Norris said the team had been given an opportunity for pole and victory and that he had gone for it, a result he described as a reward for the team's hard work after a recent difficult spell for McLaren.
