Norris hopes McLaren upgrades end podium drought
Lando Norris says he hopes McLaren's latest upgrade package for the São Paulo Grand Prix can return the team to podium contention. McLaren has gone five races without a podium, a run that dates back to Azerbaijan, and has fallen behind Red Bull, Ferrari and Mercedes in aerodynamic performance in recent months.
The package includes a revised front wing, a modified rear wing and new floor components, and also serves as an early test for a front-wing concept intended for next year's car. Norris said he was uncertain whether it would be enough, but pointed to recent Sunday pace as encouraging.
Norris warned that the small package carries risk, as it could make the already difficult MCL40 harder to drive on the limit. He said he hoped the changes would help in qualifying and, in turn, his chances in the race.
