Hamilton to start Brazilian Grand Prix from back after 65-place penalty
The FIA has confirmed that Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton will start Sunday's Brazilian Grand Prix from the back of the grid after a 65-place penalty. Ferrari changed his power unit for a second time at Interlagos following smoke from the cockpit during FP3, after he already faced a 10-place penalty for a fifth internal combustion engine.
The stewards said the penalty combined five places for an additional ICE element with ten places for several other components, including the turbocharger, exhaust, energy store and MGU-K. Hamilton will still take part in qualifying, having been 11th on the road in a rain-affected session.
Red Bull's Max Verstappen and Cadillac's Sergio Perez will also start from the back, after accumulating penalties worth 30 grid positions between them. Lando Norris took pole position for McLaren.
