Brazilian GP qualifying: Q1 under way at Interlagos

Source: PlanetF1 · · added 1 hour ago

Qualifying for the 2026 Brazilian Grand Prix at Interlagos has been held in wet conditions, with Q1 taking place after an 84-minute red flag interruption. Five drivers, including George Russell, Charles Leclerc, Sergio Perez, Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton, are starting from the back of the grid after taking grid penalties.

Heavy showers between sessions left a queue of cars waiting to head out, and the first red flag came almost immediately after rain fell at the start of Q1. Once conditions allowed, a continuous train of cars circulated to clear water and find lap time, making track position especially important.

Gabriel Bortoleto's crash ended his session, while Franco Colapinto, Pierre Gasly, Lance Stroll, Valtteri Bottas and Sergio Perez were also eliminated at the end of Q1.
