Antonelli fastest in mist-hit Sao Paulo GP practice
Kimi Antonelli, who was recently crowned F1's youngest champion, set the fastest time in Friday practice for the Sao Paulo Grand Prix. The session was affected by mist and low track temperatures, and conditions are expected to be heavily affected by rain over the weekend.
Antonelli posted a time of 1:10.763 on soft tyres, ahead of McLaren's Lando Norris and Max Verstappen. Norris had topped the earlier first practice session, and George Russell was in fourth. Several drivers ran wide at the Turn 1 run-off area, where a bump on the approach to the Senna S appeared to be the cause.
Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc were surprisingly off the pace, sixth and seventh respectively. Audi's Nico Hulkenberg did not run after a terminal issue restricted reserve Freddie Slater to seven laps in the first session. The stewards have one investigation to consider, involving Haas rookie Rafael Camara for heavily impeding Leclerc.
