Toyota crews test 2027 Rally1 car in six-day simulation before Rally Finland
Toyota Gazoo Racing has been running a six-day rally simulation at its Jyskä headquarters so that all six crews confirmed for its 2027 World Rally Championship programme can get used to the new car. The sessions replicate the routine of a real event, with crews completing recces, working on pace notes and making set-up changes between four stages totalling close to 80 kilometres.
Kalle Rovanperä's team-mate Takamoto Katsuta returned from one stage with front-right damage after hitting a deer, and the team began changing the gearbox. Co-driver Aaron Johnston and the team also examined practical details such as where crash helmets are stored and how easily the spare wheel can be removed.
World champion co-driver Scott Martin noted that the 2027 Rally1 car's exhaust runs down the middle of the car rather than the right-hand side, which should keep the co-driver's side cooler.
