Rovanpera to return to WRC with Toyota in 2027 on partial programme

Toyota has confirmed that two-time World Rally Championship champion Kalle Rovanpera will return to the WRC in 2027 for a partial programme, selecting rounds of the world rally calendar. The move follows a year out from rallying during which Rovanpera pursued a path to Formula 1 that did not go to plan, with poor performances and health problems cited as factors.

Rovanpera said the health problems, a condition involving dizziness that emerged as he began his single-seater journey over the winter, changed the direction of his year. He said prioritising his health was the right call, and that the team then offered him the chance to test the development car, leading to plans for next season. He confirmed he is now fully recovered.

Rovanpera also hinted that other activities may be coming next year, though he did not confirm any details.
