James Williams returns to rallying after Dai Roberts' death

Source: DirtFish · · added 1 hour ago

James Williams made a return to stage rallying at the Cambrian Rally last month, finishing a remarkable third overall. He had not competed on a stage rally since an accident at the Jim Clark Rally last May, which claimed the life of his co-driver Dai Roberts.

Williams stepped in at short notice after Ian Bainbridge could no longer attend the event. Speaking to DirtFish, Williams said there had been a point where he thought rallying was no longer for him, but felt it would not be right to give up on his dream, in part because of his close friendship with Roberts.

Williams described the difficulty of getting back into the car after an accident, noting that drivers usually climb out unharmed, which made the experience of the Jim Clark Rally harder to put aside.
