Jaminet narrowly misses Monza pole, starts second
Mathieu Jaminet said he was 'a little bit annoyed' to miss out on pole for Sunday's 6 Hours of Monza, finishing just 0.096 seconds behind Antonio Fuoco's AF Corse Ferrari 499P. Jaminet said one of his laps was compromised by an incident in front of him, while the Alpine ahead went off at Ascari.
The result gives Genesis Magma Racing its second consecutive front-row start, following Mathys Jaubert's pole in Barcelona last month. Jaminet also cited a problem between qualifying and Hyperpole that required the car to be opened and reset, but said starting second is a good result going into the race.
Jaminet said the team's best finish so far in its first WEC season is seventh at COTA, and that the focus now is translating qualifying pace into race-day success. He added that the race is expected to be dry, with the resurfaced circuit offering little previous running for comparison.
