Gregoire Saucy Secures Race Seat in McLaren MCL-HY Hypercar for 2027 WEC Debut
Gregoire Saucy, the reigning European Le Mans Series champion, has been announced as a race driver for McLaren's new MCL-HY Hypercar in the FIA World Endurance Championship next season. The McLaren Driver Development Program member has been involved in the Hypercar project from the beginning, and was one of two drivers, alongside Mikkel Jensen, to take the MCL-HY on its initial rollout at Varano in May.
Saucy moved from single-seaters to sports cars in 2024 and spent two years racing a United McLaren 720S GT3 Evo in WEC before winning this year's ELMS title with a United Oreca 07 Gibson alongside Griffin Peebles and Ben Hanley. He becomes the fifth driver announced for the MCL-HY, following Jensen, Laurens Vanthoor, Alex Lynn and Leonardo Fornaroli.
McLaren Endurance Racing team principal James Barclay said Saucy had impressed throughout the MCL-HY test programme. Peugeot driver Malthe Jakobsen is expected to be announced imminently for the final seat, with this weekend's Monza WEC finale his last race in a Peugeot 9X8.
