Alpine crew prepares for final WEC race at Monza
Alpine's drivers and leadership are preparing for an "emotional" final FIA World Endurance Championship race at the 6 Hours of Monza, as the French manufacturer's longtime programme comes to an end. Alpine has been involved in the WEC since 2013, initially through branding and sponsorship of Signatech-run LMP2 cars, and this race closes a three-year run with its bespoke Alpine A424 LMDh-based prototype.
Alpine announced in February that it would exit Hypercar competition at the end of the season, amid changes in direction at the Renault-owned brand and in company management. Sporting director Nico Lapierre, who started as a driver for the programme, described the race as an unexpected early completion of a circle, adding that the team wants to achieve a strong result for the final event.
Charles Milesi, who has been part of the A424 programme from the start, credited his prototype career to Signatech team principal Philippe Sinault, while Jules Gounon said he was thankful for the chance to show his potential in a top-flight prototype.
