Teams split over third Supercars enduro at Sandown
Sandown was named as the final round of the Sprint Cup rather than an opening enduro in the 2027 Supercars calendar, dashing hopes of a two-driver Sandown 500 alongside The Bend 500 and the Bathurst 1000. It is understood Supercars supported the enduro, but some teams pushed back over additional costs.
Chaz Mostert, of Walkinshaw TWG Racing, said he had expected a return to three enduros next season and believes a three-round Enduro Cup gives co-drivers more racing. PremiAir Racing team principal Roland Dane is unsure a third enduro is necessary, preferring the Gold Coast as an endurance race and expressing interest in reviving the international co-driver rule there.
Tickford Racing CEO Simon Brookhouse backed the idea of a third enduro, arguing that spreading the Enduro Cup winner's Finals ticket over three races would reduce the harsh penalty of a single bad result. He said the venue would be less important than the timing of the decision.
