Payne holds off De Pasquale to win Adelaide Grand Final heat
Chaz Mostert, Broc Feeney and Brodie Kosecki also join Payne in the four-driver Grand Final at Adelaide, with Payne starting as the top seed. Kosecki's win a day earlier had already secured his place.
Payne led from the start after taking the holeshot. Brodie Kosecki was handed a drive-through penalty on Lap 11 for switching his engine off before reaching his grid box, dropping him from fourth to 23rd. De Pasquale pitted on Lap 25 with a three-second deficit, and Grove Racing responded by bringing Payne in a lap later.
Cameron Waters had his rear-view mirror come loose during the opening stint and removed it himself before Tickford Racing took it off the car at his first pit stop. Jack Le Brocq later tipped James Golding into a spin at Turn 11 with 39 laps to go.
