Honeycutt wins Homestead and NASCAR Truck Series title
Kaden Honeycutt won the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series Championship Race at Homestead-Miami Speedway on Friday night, and with it the series title. Under caution with 27 laps remaining, he chose to pit for his last set of fresh tyres, then took the lead after the restart on lap 121 of 134 and pulled clear of Christian Eckes to win by 1.038 seconds.
The victory was Honeycutt's fifth of the season, his first at the 1.5-mile Homestead track and the fifth of his career. He said he had held back early in the race but then decided to go for the win. The title was Toyota's 11th drivers' championship in the series.
Layne Riggs, who had been expected to contest the title with Honeycutt, was hampered by a contact with Nick Sanchez on lap 2 that damaged his right rear tyre. Two flat tyres and a pass-through penalty left him 32nd, and he finished second in the standings, 83 points behind Honeycutt.
