Briscoe tops Homestead Cup practice as Larson hits wall
Chase Briscoe set the fastest lap in the one NASCAR Cup Series practice session of championship weekend at Homestead-Miami Speedway, a 32.680s lap at 165.238mph. He finished 0.073s ahead of Austin Cindric, with Denny Hamlin and Christopher Bell third and fourth, and Ryan Blaney fifth. Championship leader Kyle Larson was tenth in single-lap speeds, but he made several contact with the wall while running the high groove, damaging the right side of his No. 5 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet. Joey Logano also brushed the wall during the session.
Cindric led the five-lap averages, while Blaney topped the 10 to 30-lap averages. Briscoe, Tyler Reddick and Ty Gibbs also looked strong over a long run, and Bell appeared best of the three title contenders in that category. Larson said he did not feel comfortable in the early laps and lacked grip to run the wall as he needed to.
At the end of the session, Reddick hit the back of Zane Smith's slowing car at pit entry during a mock pit stop, spinning and damaging the nose of his No. 45 car.
