Marquez wins Qatar MotoGP Sprint after Bezzecchi crash
Marc Marquez won the 2026 Qatar MotoGP Sprint at Lusail, a result that leaves him in a strong position heading into Sunday's grand prix. Jorge Martin charged from tenth after the restart to take second, but lost that place to Fabio di Giannantonio on the final lap, leaving Marquez within mathematical range of the title.
Team-mate Marco Bezzecchi crashed out after colliding with Marquez when he tried to pass on the inside at Turn 1 on lap 4. The Stewards investigated and took no further action, a decision that drew displeasure from Aprilia Racing CEO Massimo Rivola. Bezzecchi's non-score means he is officially out of the title fight.
The race had earlier been red-flagged after Pecco Bagnaia was struck by Fermin Aldeguer at the final corner on the opening lap. Bagnaia was conscious but was taken away on a stretcher, and Aldeguer received a double long lap penalty for the restart.
