Raul Fernandez said on Friday at the Qatar Grand Prix that he is not yet fully fit, but he is improving after a fractured right index finger. The Trackhouse rider secured a place in Q2 with the fifth-fastest time in pre-qualifying.

Fernandez said he had managed to brake using his injured finger again, after the team and physiotherapists suggested trying two fingers. He said he preferred one finger because two felt slower and less responsive, and that he would see how his finger responded the following day.

Fernandez described his pace on the medium tyre as good and said he was able to work as he had not since Indonesia. He stopped after the first free practice session in Malaysia because the injury was still hampering him.
