Russell spins in pit lane during Brazilian Grand Prix
George Russell finished fourth at the Brazilian Grand Prix after a difficult race that included an unusual error in the pit lane. Starting from seventh, he ran towards the front for much of the race, but a mistake when switching from Intermediate tyres to Soft slicks nearly ended his race. As he left his grid box, Russell spun in the pit lane and was unable to complete a full 360-degree turn, so he had to manoeuvre his car to continue.
Russell said he was unsure what had happened and suggested the spin was caused by cold tyres. He also pointed to a lack of boost from the power unit. Mercedes secured the Constructors' championship with the result, which Russell described as the most important outcome despite not doing it in style.
Russell has recently been outperformed by teammate Kimi Antonelli, who won the Drivers' title in Mexico. Russell said he was starting to feel more like himself again ahead of the Las Vegas Grand Prix, a track where he has tended to do well.
