Wolff proud of Mercedes turnaround after constructors' title
Toto Wolff says he is "proud" of Mercedes' return to the top of Formula 1, after the team clinched the 2026 Constructors' Championship at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix. It is Mercedes' ninth constructors' title and their first since 2020, when they won their eighth in a row. The team had struggled to get on top of the ground effect cars after regulation changes in 2022, but won the first season of the new 2026 cars and wrapped up the Drivers' Championship earlier this month with Kimi Antonelli.
Wolff said the last four years had been difficult, with mistakes made and then understood, and that the team's resilience had been a key factor. He pointed out that Mercedes still won races between 2022 and 2025, with George Russell and Lewis Hamilton taking seven Grands Prix between them. The title move levels Mercedes with Williams on nine constructors' titles, behind McLaren and Ferrari.
Wolff credited the people at the Brackley and Brixworth factories for producing the best car on average this season.
