Norris takes pole at Interlagos in wet qualifying

Source: F1Technical · · added 6 hours ago

Lando Norris secured a third consecutive pole position at Interlagos after a strong performance in rain-affected qualifying on Saturday. The McLaren driver set a time of 1:27.470 in Q3 to beat Mercedes' George Russell to the top spot as the rain intensified during the final segment.

Norris said the session was tense, as he knew the weather was getting worse and that his first competitive laps could prove decisive. He described Q3 as the trickiest segment, citing difficulty judging the wet and dry patches and puddles in the poor light, and said he had felt confident throughout the session.

Norris also noted the challenge of switching from full wet tyres to intermediates in Q2 before preparing for the final shoot-out, and said it was particularly notable that this was his first time driving McLaren's current car in the rain.
