Hamilton's Ferrari smokes in final practice at Interlagos

Source: RacingNews365 · · added 14 minutes ago

Lewis Hamilton's troubled weekend with Ferrari continued in final practice for the São Paulo Grand Prix. He had taken a new internal combustion engine in his SF-26, which carries a 10-place grid penalty for Sunday's race. Team-mate Charles Leclerc also received a new ICE from the Scuderia.

Around 35 minutes into the session, Hamilton reported smoke in the cockpit over the radio and returned to the pits. Smoke then emerged from several areas of the car, and it was reported to smell of burning oil. Ferrari mechanics reversed the car into the garage, and Hamilton stepped out.

Hamilton appeared unlikely to return, meaning he would miss the vital qualifying simulation runs at the end of the session.
