Brundle criticises Red Bull over possible Lawson exit after Mexico clash
Martin Brundle has said Red Bull would be "pathetic" if the practice clash between Liam Lawson and Max Verstappen at the Mexico City Grand Prix played any part in Lawson losing his Racing Bulls seat for 2027. The pair collided during FP2, and the FIA stewards gave each driver a one-place grid penalty and a penalty point on their superlicence, judging them equally at fault.
Racing Bulls team principal Alan Permane has confirmed that Lawson's future remains unresolved, with the team weighing him against junior prospects Arvid Lindblad and Nikola Tsolov for its two race seats. Tsolov, who deputised for Lawson in FP1, is understood to be the frontrunner should Lawson be dropped.
Brundle drew on his own experience, recalling that he was dropped by Benetton at the end of 1992 despite often matching Michael Schumacher's pace, and said Lawson had done a tremendous job for the team.
