Antonelli starts second in Sao Paulo after Russell penalty

Source: F1Technical · · added 6 hours ago

Kimi Antonelli will start the Sao Paulo Grand Prix from the front row after George Russell's grid penalty moved him up to second on the grid, alongside Lando Norris on pole. Antonelli finished third in qualifying, which was affected by rain, and said he struggled to find the right balance in the difficult conditions.

It was his first time driving at Interlagos in the wet. He said he felt comfortable on the full wet tyres but found the switch to intermediates harder, having completed only an installation lap on them in Q2. Increasing rainfall also made it harder to extract lap time, and he had a significant moment at Turn 5 and lost time at Turn 9.

Antonelli said Saturday's session had been a learning experience and that he would have more knowledge of the car and conditions if Sunday's race is wet.
