JR Motorsports wins NASCAR O'Reilly title with Allgaier
Brandon Jones gave Toyota its 700th NASCAR national series victory in the O'Reilly Auto Parts Series season finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway, but the season belonged to JR Motorsports. The team claimed its fifth championship, won 17 of the 33 races with seven different drivers, and saw all five of its cars reach victory lane. All four of its full-time drivers made the post-season Chase.
Justin Allgaier won his second title, becoming the oldest series champion since Tommy Ellis in 1988 and the first JR Motorsports driver to win multiple championships for the organisation. Allgaier entered the 200-lap finale with a 22-point lead over defending champion Jesse Love, and had tyre problems twice during the race, including a right-rear failure on lap 139 that led to a pit road incident and a red flag.
Dale Earnhardt Jr., who co-owns the team with his sister Kelley Earnhardt Miller and her husband L.W. Miller, said the playoff format gave the team a clearer understanding of its goals each weekend.
