Wolff backs MotoGP's handling of Qatar Grand Prix row
Mercedes Formula 1 team boss Toto Wolff has backed MotoGP's handling of its Qatar Grand Prix at Lusail, which went ahead with 16 of the 22 full-time riders present after several unofficial votes in which most riders opposed racing there over fears of conflict escalation in the Middle East. Yamaha's factory and Pramac riders are the only ones absent without replacement, after the manufacturer said it had not identified sufficient grounds to change its travel restrictions.
Wolff said F1 follows international guidelines, travel restrictions and local government feedback when deciding on races, and that riders speaking out had media value but no direct knowledge of the geopolitical situation. He said anyone uncomfortable travelling should be respected. F1 has Qatar and Abu Dhabi Grands Prix scheduled for 29 November and 6 December.
