Fernandez frustrated by fuel issues after losing Qatar podium spot
Raul Fernandez secured a podium finish in the Qatar Grand Prix on his comeback from finger injuries, but said he was frustrated at failing to save enough fuel to hold off Marc Marquez. Fernandez fought from fourth to second behind Marco Bezzecchi on the opening lap, then tried to conserve fuel by staying in the slipstream of his fellow Aprilia rider.
His fuel consumption remained too high, and Marquez passed him in the closing laps to take second place. Marquez finished 0.531 seconds clear at the chequered flag. Fernandez said he would like to fight Marquez until the end of the season, and cited technical and mental factors behind Bezzecchi's dominance, including problems preparing for the main straight. Fernandez remains seventh in the World Championship with two rounds to go, while team-mate Ai Ogura finished fourth.
