Verstappen tops final Brazil practice as Hamilton's engine fails

Source: RacingNews365 · · added 3 hours ago

Max Verstappen finished final practice fastest in Brazil, just ahead of newly crowned champion Kimi Antonelli, though he will start Sunday's grand prix from the back of the grid after taking a new power unit. Lando Norris was third in the upgraded McLaren, ahead of George Russell and Charles Leclerc, who are also among the drivers facing grid drops.

Lewis Hamilton's session was cut short when his new power unit began making an unusual sound with around 25 minutes remaining and began smoking. He was forced back to the pit lane, completed only seven laps and finished 12th, with a further engine change now expected before qualifying. Lance Stroll also had an ERS problem and completed seven laps.

Rafael Camara set 15th, ahead of team-mate Oliver Bearman. Qualifying begins at 15:00 local time.
