Norris wins Sao Paulo Grand Prix ahead of Verstappen

Source: BBC Sport · · added 12 minutes ago

McLaren's Lando Norris won the Sao Paulo Grand Prix from pole, taking his first victory since the Dutch Grand Prix at the end of August. He lost the lead to Kimi Antonelli at the start and fell back when the track was wet, but a pit stop for dry-weather tyres put him back on Antonelli's tail. Antonelli spun away the lead at the first corner, and Norris went on to dominate through a late shower that required a switch to wet-weather tyres.

Max Verstappen finished second after starting 21st, following an engine penalty, with a supreme drive in changeable conditions. George Russell spun exiting the pits a few laps before Antonelli lost the lead, costing him 15 to 20 seconds, but he and Antonelli still recovered to finish fourth and fifth.

That result was enough for Mercedes to clinch the constructors' championship, a week after Antonelli had tied up the drivers' title.
