Hamilton says Ferrari must not waste another easy one-two

Source: RaceFans · · added 4 hours ago

Lewis Hamilton has kept up the pressure on Charles Leclerc after Ferrari's defeat at the Mexican Grand Prix. Both Ferrari drivers ran off the track while disputing the lead on the first lap, which gave Max Verstappen a route to victory. Team principal Frederic Vasseur admitted the team should not have lost the race after the two cars led into turn one, and Hamilton said Leclerc raced him too hard at the start.

Hamilton said the team had "easily" been in a position for a one-two and must work to ensure it does not happen again. He added that the team had yet to discuss the incident, with Vasseur back in Maranello and Leclerc travelling home for the birth of his first child. Hamilton said a sit-down meeting would take place but that the matter would not be resolved in a single session.

Looking ahead, Hamilton said he believed Ferrari could fight for the world championship next year, describing it as the team's sole goal. He acknowledged the team had been on the back foot on power this year, while praising the car's reliability and performance.
