NASCAR to use owner points to set field after rainouts in 2027

NASCAR has confirmed that owner points will be used to set the starting field when races are rained out in 2027. The change is designed to give a fairer basis for the line-up than the previous approach.

The series is also considering other qualifying changes. These include a single round of single-car qualifying at superspeedways, and an All-Star qualifying format that would incorporate a pit stop for selected events.

The details of the qualifying tweaks remain under discussion, and no final format has been set out for those proposals.
