Antonelli's title road and Mercedes move examined on podcast
A new episode of High Performance Racing looks at how close Kimi Antonelli came to retiring before his title win in Mexico. Gwen Lagrue, who first spotted Antonelli racing a go-kart in Adria in 2017, joins the hosts to discuss what made him stand out, along with the call he received from Toto Wolff the morning Lewis Hamilton announced he was leaving.
Mercedes Deputy Team Principal Bradley Lord describes the factory meeting where Wolff told Antonelli the seat could be his, and the 40 minutes the new champion spent alone in an empty engineering office afterwards. Lord also recounts a cracked sump that left Antonelli's engine struggling with four laps to go.
The episode further covers Ferrari's rules-of-engagement issues, Esteban Ocon's exit from Haas, the latest on Liam Lawson and whether George Russell can bounce back.
